As the Regulatory Science Branch Head, you will support the Executive Director's administration of the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme.To be a strong contender for this important and challenging role, you will need to be forward-thinking, self-motivated, resilient, and adept at building relationships. You will have experience in using office-based digital tools.Your strong leadership credentials and ability to engender trust and respect will be complemented by sound judgement, a strong focus on results, and the ability to resolve complex regulatory science issues in a public sector context, including by using your regulatory science experience, marshalling resources, and leveraging relationships.You will have high-level regulatory science experience relating to chemicals (industrial, agricultural, veterinary or therapeutic) and a sound understanding of the expectations of Ministers. With extensive executive management experience, you will be experienced in providing strategic leadership and direction and building the capability of your team and the organisation more broadly.The key duties of the position include:Significant leadership and management expertise working with and motivating diverse scientific and regulatory teams delivering substance- or product-based regulation in a tightly resourced and time-bound environment.Ability to foster collaboration and guide continuous improvement initiatives.Experience in or knowledge of Australia's chemical regulation framework, ideally related to industrial chemicals.Strong experience of applying scientific judgments in a regulatory context.Demonstrated technical expertise and the capacity to broaden your technical expertise.Ability to analyse complex, multi-faceted issues and develop reasoned conclusions that support regulatory outcomes within statutory timeframes.Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.Strong organisational skills, including time management and dealing with competing priorities.Ability to consider emerging trends and challenges, identifying long-term opportunities ensuring business activities continue to evolve and align with risk proportionate regulation.Experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders to explore opportunities and solve complex problems.Demonstrated commitment to promote diversity, model the APS Values, APS Employment Principles and promote compliance with the APS Code of Conduct and the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours (DRIVE).To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health and Aged Care, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
