SES Band 1 - Assistant Secretary, Digital Strategy and Planning Branch The Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking applications from talented and highly motivated individuals to fill the Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 vacancy of Assistant Secretary, Digital Strategy and Planning Branch.
As an Assistant Secretary in the department, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team.
You will support the Executive in the provision of advice to Government and contribute to the leadership, management and strategic direction setting of the department.
You will manage, develop and implement major government and departmental initiatives; participate in both departmental and whole of government forums; and contribute to corporate leadership and capability development for the department, including building high performing teams.
As Assistant Secretary, Digital Strategy and Planning you will work closely with policy and program areas to support the work of the Department and have a strong track record of innovation and transformation using data and evidence to drive decision-making and reform.
Together with the ability to drive strategy and lead change, you will engage and consult with diverse stakeholders to build consensus and ownership and deliver solutions and outcomes across diverse areas.

Duties Lead the development and implementation of the digital transformation strategy ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, enhanced user experience, and improved operational efficiency.
Implement technology-driven system reforms to modernise legacy systems, enhance service delivery, and build a more agile IT infrastructure.
Manage and lead teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional development.
Oversee digital transformation efforts, ensuring smooth transitions from legacy systems to modern solutions and empowering staff to embrace new technologies.
Ensure timely and on-budget delivery of the digital transformation roadmap.
Cultivate strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the digital strategy aligns with organisational and whole-of-government objectives.
Align IT initiatives with business objectives, enabling data-driven decision-making and improving processes.
Foster a culture of continuous innovation and improvement within the Branch.
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and lead change management efforts.
Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies and how to integrate them to enhance service delivery and support digital transformation goals.
This position is located in Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC.
Other locations may be considered on a case by case basis.
Eligibility Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance.
The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
The successful candidate will be required obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
