The Service Owner bridges key stakeholders and our Data Platforms' technical teams. It focuses on relationship building, driving change through technology and data solutions, resilience, and a can-do attitude. You will work daily with your agile team and business stakeholders to ensure your team delivers business and customer value aligned with the overall strategy and project objectives.
Projects and changes focus on Westpac's next-generation technology capabilities, including data analytics, platform development, software development, specialized application development, systems, and processes. As a Service Owner, you guide the technical team to stay focused on business objectives while helping stakeholders understand the project journey and complexities. While an interest in technology is beneficial, the role requires data and delivery experience, whether from analytics or engineering.
The Service Owner leads the delivery of program epics and initiatives, leading a scrum of engineers and data experts. Growth opportunities include taking ownership of data products envisioned and developed by the team. You will partner with business stakeholders to create a shared vision and strategy, propose ideas, influence customer outcomes, and champion data/business value. Leading squads to deliver data-related epics, you will support strategic initiatives such as UNITE .
Key duties: Proactively engage business stakeholders to understand quarterly and annual strategy and objectives to build and align on a product roadmap that transforms the strategy into an actionable and outcomes-based plan. Responsible for end-to-end delivery defined by a clear roadmap and track and report on success metrics. Work with relevant members of scrum teams to steer the team towards developing the "right thing" at the "right time", while the engineering teams remain accountable for "solutions" and developing things the "right way". Inspire the scrum team with the product vision and a sense of purpose and continuously deploy incremental customer value. Translate the requirements into value-driven features and stories that deliver outcomes to the business. Define and track key organisational and business outcomes + value and health metrics. Define clear release and sprint goals, own, maintain and prioritise the product backlog while focusing on delivering the maximum value aligned with product strategy. Empower the team to be self-organised by being a leader and member of the team at the same time. Work closely with the Scrum Master to remove team impediments & lead by example. Provide thought leadership in the Service Owner and Product Owner domain and participate in communities of practice. Promote the organisational conversation regarding the use of data and insights to achieve customer-centric outcomes and realise business opportunities. What do I need? Experienced professional who is intrigued by what data is and passionate about the value it can bring. Experience in leading data platform delivery on Azure, AWS, or GCP technologies. Solid understanding of data governance and program governance. You are a go-getter who likes to make things happen. An open mindset to feedback and new ideas with an ability to think creatively and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous work environment. Ability to multi-task with conflicting priorities. Ability to manage multiple scrum teams, programs and initiatives in parallel. Ability to logically work using a structured approach to prioritise initiatives across multiple stakeholders. You take a collaborative approach to work and have excellent stakeholder management skills. Solid experience in an Agile environment, leading distributed teams and working with people covering a diverse range of styles, personalities, skills, and experiences. Experience with JIRA and Confluence. Exposure (or a genuine interest) in data technologies. Familiarity and keen interest in the latest developments in the world of data and AI. Ability to confidently talk about data as an asset to the business. Experience leading, driving organisational cultural change, uplifting business mindset, Agile uplift. Experience working in complex or highly regulated industries. Learner Mindset: Openness and ability to learn new skills and technologies in a fast-paced environment.
