Job summary This is an exciting new role for Retrieve, an opportunity for a forward thinking, organised and committed individual to join our passionate team.
There is a full time role available at each Retrieve base location, in the Peninsula region, based in Launceston, Cornwall, PL15 9JD.
In Severn region, based in Bradley Stoke, Bristol BS32 4QA.
The Band 7 Senior Transfer Practitioner (Senior TP) is accountable and responsible for the delivery and management of a Retrieve sub-regional base.
They will promote and monitor safe and effective practice, enhance the patient experience, and provides effective leadership and management contributing to the delivery of the service.
The Senior Transfer Practitioner will: - Deputise and support the Lead Nurse - Be responsible for professional day to day clinical leadership and operational management of their base.
Working with the other base Senior Transfer Practitioner to ensure effective running of the service.
- Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach in a role which encompasses leadership, management and clinical responsibilities.
- Promote and monitor a safe work environment.
- Responsible for the implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives in the service.
There will be an expectation to continue to further develop clinical skills and continue to in a clinical role for 50% of their time.
Main duties of the job A Senior Transfer Practitioner would be expected to act as a role model, demonstrating strong leadership skills and deputising for the Lead Nurse as required.
They would be accountable for overseeing the rota, and managing staffs contracted hours and well as the implantation and monitoring of audit and quality initiatives.
Retrieve prides itself on professionalism and work culture, the Senior TP will uphold the Retrieve brand, supporting the team, ensuring they feel supported, valued and listened to.
Working closely with the Retrieve Leadership Team, including leads for Governance, Audit and Research, as well as the education team.
The Senior TP will play a vital role in the development, improvement, management and promotion of the service, delivering high quality critical care in transfer across the south west.
Working collaboratively with the multi-professional team, the Senior TP will act as a professional role model, setting standards of practice and promoting clinical effectiveness.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experiance Essential Significant recent operational experience in speciality of Intensive Care Recent relevant experience with intra-hospital and inter-hospital transfer Previous experience of change management and problem solving Evidence of post graduate specialist training to masters level or equivalent ALS provider Ability to lead and manage a team Understanding of the principles and application of effective staff and HR management/appraisals Understanding the theory and application of clinical governance Ability to act as a role model, providing excellent patient care and promoting a culture where staff feel valued Previous experience of change management and problem solving Previous experience of ensuring a safe environment Understanding of the principles and application of effective budgetary management Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice / speciality Desirable Leadership Program or equivalent Evidence of presentations at local and regional level Significant and recent operational experience in a regional critical care transfer service IM&T Essential Competent in the use of IT packages such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Competent to utilise medical databases and search engines to access current evidence and literature Good knowledge of ARCEMS or willingness to learn ARCEMS, Retrieves electronic patient record system Skills and Abilities Essential Excellent advanced critical care clinical skills Ability to work in a highly demanding specialist environment and use of reflective practice Able to gain credibility with and influence colleagues effectively implementing clinical changes where appropriate Able to work across professional team and organisational boundaries Analyse, interpret and compare complex facts or situations and act appropriately Ability to work with advanced technologies Flexibility, adaptability to meet needs of a changing service Flexibility in working practices (unsocial hours) Self-motivated and able to motivate others Delivery of evidence-based practice Evidence of continued leadership / management development Knowledge of national and local specialty specific issues Attention to detail in the development, production and dissemination of documents and information Strong organisational skills - prioritising complex situations Demonstrates ability to implement and utilise audit data to improve quality Able to advise on and implement improvements to the quality and efficiency of care for patients in the service Previous experience of research and audit Qualifications and Training Essential Current NMC Registration Degree or equivalent qualification in nursing Relevant accredited post registration Evidence of masters level academic study or willingness to work towards Masters (in relevant health related subject) Completion of Step 1-3 competencies or equivalent experience in critical care.
Desirable Qualification in Teaching, Assessing and mentoring Completion of Step 4 in critical care competencies
