About the role The Senior Traction Power Engineer provides specialized expertise for the design, maintenance, construction, and upgrades of the 25kV Traction Power System (TPS) within the Public Transport Authority (PTA) rail network. This role includes reviewing TPS operational performance, planning maintenance and repair schedules, and conducting inspections, audits, and failure analyses to support safe and reliable operations. Key responsibilities involve monitoring maintenance plans, recording and analysing system performance, and recommending improvements to the Principal Electrical Engineer.
In addition to technical oversight, the Senior Traction Power Engineer participates in commissioning new equipment, ensuring compliance with PTA design principles and industry standards. This role manages high-value TPS projects, coordinating teams and contractors for system installations and upgrades. Effective communication with other PTA sections, along with guiding and updating technical documents, is essential. The engineer also plays an active role in training staff to maintain a high standard of safe and efficient TPS operations.
About You! To excel in this role, you should possess:
A degree in Electrical Engineering with eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer status, and strong knowledge of High Voltage protection relays, SCADA systems, and 25kV Traction Power systems in railway environments. Experience in managing complex projects and contracts, with the ability to quickly understand and apply advanced technical engineering principles in operational settings. Well-developed verbal, written, and interpersonal abilities, enabling effective collaboration and rapport-building with internal and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex technical issues, along with organizational capabilities to achieve project targets through teamwork and delegation.
