Position Description Position Title: Senior Town Planner
Position Purpose:
The key function of the role is to perform the statutory functions and duties of a Local Government Town Planner as required. Undertake efficient, accurate and timely assessments of planning applications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Council Policy whilst achieving good quality outcomes for the municipality. Prepare, implement and review strategic planning documents as directed by Manager City Development. Provide professional advice to employees, councillors, applicants and other external parties on planning matters. Mentor junior employees and contribute to the continuous improvement of the planning team.
Key Responsibilities: Process, manage and undertake high-quality assessments of development applications. Provide high-quality advice to Council and customers. Prepare proofs of evidence and attend mediation and hearings as required. Assist in the ongoing review and update of planning ordinances, strategies and guidelines. Provide consistently high levels of service to internal and external customers. Supervise employees including reviewing reports and mentoring team members. Minimum Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent discipline. Postgraduate industry experience – preferably in local government. Current 'C' class driver's licence. Selection Criteria: Demonstrated experience in managing and assessing complex planning applications. Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, organise and manage own time to achieve targets. Highly developed customer service skills including conflict resolution, problem solving, and negotiation skills. Highly developed report writing skills and the ability to prepare and facilitate presentations. Working Conditions:
The position is permanent full-time with a total remuneration of $108,944 - $123,996, including superannuation.
