The Species and Communities Program coordinates the listing, management, and recovery of threatened species, ecological communities, and wetlands. The program provides policy, strategic, and technical advice on fauna, flora, ecological community, and wetland conservation, and manages projects for the promotion of conservation on land not managed by the department.
We are seeking to establish a pool of suitable candidates for the role of Senior Technical Officer.
The Senior Technical Officer contributes to the ongoing conservation and management of Western Australian biodiversity with an emphasis on threatened species and ecological communities through undertaking technical and administrative roles relating to the Threatened Species and Ecological Communities Database.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertaking data curation for threatened species, ecological communities, and/or wetlands. Contributing to other processes as they arise. Liaising with Government agencies, local government, consultants, industry, and the public in relation to threatened species and ecological communities. Knowledge of Western Australian threatened species and ecological communities and the impacts of management activities on biodiversity in Western Australia, with relevant experience (DESIRABLE) in biodiversity conservation and land management. Substantial experience in collating and presenting technical information relevant to biodiversity conservation and land management. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to a range of audiences, including internal and external stakeholders and members of the public. High-level technical ability with databases, information technology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including digitisation and manipulation of spatial data. Ability to work as part of a team and independently, showing a high level of self-motivation and organisational skills, and leading or managing (DESIRABLE) other staff.
