The client is part of the biggest shift the energy sector has ever seen. Your new company The client is part of the biggest shift the energy sector has ever seen. There is a proposed electricity and data cable that will further connect Tasmania to the mainland. It will enable the flow of electricity in both directions between the two states, delivering low-cost, reliable and clean energy for customers in the National Electricity Market (NEM). It will allow excess energy generated on the mainland to be stored in Tasmania's hydro storage, and made available for use when NEM demand outstrips supply. Tasmania's renewable energy and storage resources will also be available for use throughout the NEM. This project will secure Tasmania's place in the renewable energy transition, paving the way for economic growth, job opportunities, and sustainable development. Your new role Key responsibilities: - Undertake simulations and investigations of the performance of the cable and the networks it connects to for the purposes of design, reporting and advising on integration issues. - Provide technical advice on the design and adequacy of System Protection Schemes, frequency and voltage control requirements, steady state, and dynamic stability, including lialson with appropriate regulatory and industry bodies. - Undertake activities to maintain and enhance the cable's ability to undertake network simulations. - Interact and liaise with appropriate regulatory and industry bodies on system integration and power quality issues. - Develop a deep understanding of the operation and performance of the cable in/and the NEM (network) - Provide expert technical advice on all (cable related) system integration matters in a climate of rapid technology regulatory changes. - Communicate highly technical issues and concepts to non-technical audiences. - Provide mentoring and guidance to other less experienced team members and graduates. - Represent cable in external technical forums ensuring a professional and constructive contribution aligned with strategic objectives and expectations. - Provide advice and make decisions that will impact on the future performance of the cable in/and the power system in a climate of rapid technological and regulatory change. - Meeting with external stakeholders to discuss & resolve technical and system integration issues. What you'll need to succeed - Recognised Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering with demonstrated experience in system planning/performance or a similar role. - Understainding of power system components, the NEM and the Tasmanian/ Australian electricity system. - Intermediate to advance proficiency in transmission planning and analysis software (PSSE & PSCAD). - Sound understanding of power system control systems and system protection schemes. - Demonstrated project management & technical leadership skills to support small teams of professionals managing complex issues with an adaptable approach to your work be able to effectively achieve agreed outputs in a shifting environment. - Highly developed understanding of power system components (generation, transmissions, and distribution), system design, operation, and National Electricity Rules requirements. - Excellent communication and report writing skills, with the ability to critically review technical documents and be willing to make decisions on complex technical issues. - Knowledge of renewable energy integration into power networks. - Self-motivated and capable of working individually with little or no direct supervision. - Well-developed ability to apply internal and external stakeholder management best practice.
