About the role
The Senior Sustainability Advisor will lead and support the implementation of sustainability initiatives including but not limited to, sustainable procurement (supply chain), circular economy principles, low carbon solutions and climate resilience strategies in our Major Projects, ensuring sustainability performance to meet Major Project's goal expectations.
They will also provide sustainability advice to multi-disciplined teams, championing low carbon infrastructure solutions.
This role will be based in Parramatta, with travel to project sites across the Greater Sydney region required.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Identifying, developing, delivering and advising project teams on sustainability initiatives and opportunities aligned with Sydney Water strategies.
Capability uplift and improving internal knowledge on sustainability issues within project teams.
Assisting in the implementation of the Sydney Water Environmental Management system, policies and procedures.
Leading and supporting project infrastructure sustainability ratings or alternative processes, and overseeing Delivery Contractors' performance on delivery of sustainability ratings.
Providing sustainability advice on procurement strategies, reviewing tender submissions, and embedding sustainability requirements into the design and procurement process.
Support the implementation of Sydney Water's Carbon in Decision-Making Framework which includes its Carbon Estimation Tool, within Major Projects.
Who are we looking for?
You will have demonstrated experience in providing advice and leading initiatives in sustainability, preferably on large civil infrastructure construction projects.
You are confidently able to collaborate with contractors and other project stakeholders to deliver sustainability blueprints and position statements to improve sustainability performance and achieve measurable improvements.
You must be able to work in both office and site-based environments, and have or be willing to obtain a Construction Industry White Card.
You have:
A Degree in Science, Environment Management, Environmental Engineering with sustainability components, or related field, or experience deemed equivalent.
7+ years' work experience in a similar role within a similar industry.
Sustainability experience in infrastructure projects, and exposure to State-Significant Infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.
Experience in sustainability ratings, including but not limited to the Infrastructure Sustainability Council.
Experience and ability in using or knowledge of carbon accounting principles and standards.
Demonstrated ability to develop and embed improvements in work methods across a program of works.
Expertise and experience in developing procurement guidelines and documents to drive sustainability outcomes.
Working knowledge of current relevant environmental and sustainability legislation and current environmental and sustainability issues.
