About the Role This is a Fixed Term Position until the 3rd of December 2026. The purpose of this role is to support the Manager of the Cadastral Infrastructure and Standards (CIS) section to deliver the legislated functions of the Surveyor-General, which include the provision of land surveying services, expert advice for government projects and land dealings, and monitoring the standard of cadastral surveys through the survey audit program.
CIS is a section within the office of Surveyor-General Victoria (SGV) whose purpose is to ensure the provision of authoritative and efficient land surveying and drafting services to government and the private sector.
Position Outcomes / Accountabilities Undertake complex survey audits as part of the state-wide survey audit program; prepare concise and authoritative audit reports identifying requisitions; liaise with audited licensed surveyors responding to their requisitions and provide administrative support to the audit program.Undertake high level research on complex surveying issues, land tenure and land status matters and provide expert verbal advice and written reports to the Surveyor-General, customers, clients and stakeholders as necessary.Undertake complex Surveyor-General consent cases and prepare concise and authoritative reports and advice to the surveying industry.Provide high level expert written and verbal advice to a variety of clients and stakeholders in relation to Government land dealings and act as the point of contact/manager of survey services for a departmental region as required.In accordance with relevant legislation, undertake complex cadastral surveys in support of Government's land management and development projects, ensuring the preparation of high-quality documentation and reporting of the surveys.Prepare detailed contract survey specifications and manage contractor/consultant surveyors delivering land surveying services with particular attention to the facilitation of government initiatives and major projects.Contribute to the development of land surveying policies, the improvement of management systems and practices for SGV and foster and improve relationships with client organisations, related government land organisations and other stakeholders.Represent the Surveyor-General as required at industry events, court proceedings, tribunals and advisory committees.Contribute to the strategic development of SGV and actively develop its culture and capability including mentoring and developing other team members.Key Selection Criteria The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking an experienced and licensed surveyor to join our team as a Senior Surveyor. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in land surveying within Victoria's dynamic transport and planning environment.
To be successful, you must be a practicing licensed surveyor in Victoria, with at least eight years of experience highly desirable. You will demonstrate a deep understanding of Victorian cadastral surveying practices, land tenure legislation, and the ability to conduct and peer review complex cadastral surveys to the highest standard.
The role requires exceptional written communication skills to prepare comprehensive reports, briefs, and survey documentation, alongside advanced computer proficiency in drafting, data processing, and survey calculations. Strong organisational awareness and project management abilities are essential to monitor project performance and mitigate risks effectively.
