About the RoleThe Senior Transport Planner will support the Department's Land use Strategy team's role in shaping the integration of state significant land use proposals with the requirements of the current and future transport system to deliver a prosperous, connected and liveable City.
The role will work collaboratively across the transport portfolio, other government departments and agencies (e.g.
the Victorian Planning Authority) and local government to ensure best practice integrated land use and transport planning in Melbourne.
This role will review and formulate a position on plans and proposals on behalf of the Metropolitan Regions to ensure that Planning Scheme Amendments made under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 realise the intention of the Transport Integration Act 2010 for state significant land use proposals.
Engage with key Industries, portfolio agencies, government agencies, local government, local communities, freight and logistics companies and other transport and industry stakeholders to ensure successful integrated transport planning occurs and transport issues are effectively managed.Formulates the Department's position including in formal written submissions and represents this position in meetings with Councils, Planning Authorities, Developers, Landowners and other authorities.
Makes submission on behalf of the Department including to formal hearing proceedings such as those facilitated by Planning Panels Victoria.Considers input received from internal subject matter experts and understands and accurately represents this input for sites of strategic importance including Intermodal Freight Terminals, Airports and Ports, Priority Precincts and other key land use initiatives such as Strategic Extractive Resource Areas.Provides direction and clarity post-approval of planning amendments, documenting key outcomes and issues to ensure subsequent Master Planning and Statutory Planning processes consistently work towards outcomes.Supports broader Department efforts to review completed and future Precinct Structure Plans and Activity Centre Plans, including providing input into transport gaps for completed Structure Plans and the application of associated funds such as Infrastructure Contribution Plans and Growth Area Infrastructure Contributions to address current and emerging network issues.Builds relationships and negotiates with internal teams, government agencies, local government, local communities, freight and logistics groups and other transport and industry stakeholders to ensure transport and land use plans reflect the Department's vision and network requirements for that area.Guides and mentors less experienced team members.Key Selection CriteriaThe Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to join our team.
