THE ROLE The Senior Solicitor in the Legislation team will work closely with the Managing Principal Solicitor in providing legislation services to the department.
This position will be responsible for providing high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
The Legislation team is responsible for supporting the policy development and providing the relevant legislation services to deliver the department's legislation program.
Working closely with policy areas within the department and other teams in the Legal Services branch, the Legislation team will deliver legal policy reform through the development of policy, legislation and subordinate legislation related to department's portfolio areas.
Legal issues will mainly be focussed on the department's portfolios and legislation projects including the development of Bills, regulations, and other statutory instruments.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE * Provide, with minimal supervision, authoritative advice on complex legal, legislation and policy issues and provide high level briefings and correspondence.
* Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver high quality client focused legal and legislation services in relation to complex and sensitive matters.
* Prepare briefs and instruct counsel and external legal panel firms in complex and sensitive matters.
