The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system. The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 475 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

Senior Solicitor, Proceeds of Crime

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced solicitor to join the OPP's Proceeds of Crime team as a Senior Solicitor!

A successful incumbent will be responsible for preparing and instructing counsel in a broad variety of Confiscation Act litigation in the Supreme and County Courts. Other responsibilities will include appearing in the Confiscation list of the County Court and other pre-trial proceedings.

About the Role:

Prepare and manage cases in a timely manner of complex conviction based confiscation matters, Civil Forfeiture and Unexplained Wealth applications and appeals including early resolutions where appropriate.

Prepare and instruct counsel in complex confiscation litigation and hearings.

Provide written and verbal advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Director, Proceeds of Crime, including assisting in policy development.

As our ideal candidate you will have:

An extensive knowledge of civil rules and procedure with a working knowledge of criminal law is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience in the preparation and conduct of commercial, civil or confiscation litigation and relevant legislation such as the Confiscation Act.

Demonstrated competence appearing as a solicitor advocate in complex applications in the Supreme and County Courts.

The position is Melbourne based; however, occasional regional travel may be a requirement of the position. A vehicle and overnight accommodation are provided as required.
