About the team The Social Work team aims to improve the health and wellbeing of women and babies attending the Women's, and embraces a view of women's health that is holistic and considers women's social, physical, emotional and cultural wellbeing.
Our Social Workers are connected with a range of other groups including maternity, women's health clinic and gynaecology.
About the role As a Senior Social Worker you'll be a valued member of the Women's Social Work team.
You'll be responsible for ensuring that patients and families are provided with continuous care and support throughout their admission at the Women's, working closely with the Afterhours Manager to triage and manage complex patient circumstances as they arise.
You'll respond to diverse and varied circumstances, providing bereavement support, managing child protection issues and family violence related incidents and risk, assess patient needs, coordinate resources, facilitate communication between patients and medical staff, and assist with discharge planning.
Key responsibilities will see you: Provide quality patient-focused care to patients and their carers and communities through culturally safe, competent, evidence-based clinical skills relating to psychosocial assessment, interventions including crisis intervention, short-term counselling, bereavement care, advocacy, community liaison, referral and discharge planning.Involve patients, carers and significant others in medical treatment decision making and care plans, treatment goals and discharge plans as per the patients' wishes.Provide appropriate secondary consultation and support to clinicians regarding child and family risk issues to achieve high quality and safe outcomes.Work closely with the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of women and their families with a view to achieving desired patient outcomes.In this role you'll work predominantly Friday - Sunday to allow for comprehensive handover, warm referrals and follow up with patient work to be completed outside of usual business hours.
On occasion, you'll be required to provide cover on public holidays i.e., Saturday – Monday.
Weekend and public holiday penalty rates apply.
About you You will be someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who has the ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You'll bring with you:
Qualifications as a Social Worker with 5-7 years post-qualifying experience, as well as meeting eligibility requirements for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).Demonstrated high level of understanding of the principles of trauma informed care when working with victim/survivors of family violence and sexual assault.Experience and ability to work autonomously and to provide an advanced social work service and range of interventions to patients and families in crisis situations including family violence, child protection, trauma and bereavement.Advanced time management, administrative and organisational skills.Ability to work autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team setting.At the Women's you will enjoy a culture that is collaborative, supportive and passionate about learning.
