Senior Security Advisor, Departmental Security Unit - APS Level 5 Salary: $83 299 to $88 327 plus 15.4% superannuation

Our Opportunity

The Departmental Security Unit (DSU) is responsible for managing the protective security function for the Attorney-Generals Department. We define security as an enabling service; enabling growth, improvement and innovation to support implementation of the department's transformation strategy and future ways of working. As a Senior Security Advisor, you will play an important role in continuously improving our security capability and supporting a positive security culture, empowering staff to engage with all aspects of security. The key duties of this role will include:

supporting a variety of the departments security functions, including policy and governance, personnel security functions and security engagement

being a key contact and escalation point for staff in interstate offices to assist with security maturity uplift and managing security incidents

supporting the department's personnel security functions, including pre-employment screening, security clearance management and security awareness training

developing innovative resources to support staff in meeting their security obligations

supporting the creation and delivery of security education and engagement campaigns nationally

assisting with annual reporting in line with the PSPF and supporting the provision of papers for internal committees

supporting protective security arrangements under the National Security Information (Criminal and Civil Proceedings) Act 2004, including conducting site security assessments and preparing reports

coordinating and delivering travel briefings to staff travelling overseas

providing advice to a broad range of stakeholders on security matters and best practice guidance

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking people who bring external ideas, diverse experiences, and are willing to explore innovative ways of working. We are looking for people who are keen to learn and have experience and transferrable skills from areas such as risk, policy and program development/management, human resources and other corporate/enabling services, customer service roles or anyone with an interest in security. Prior knowledge of protective security and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) is advantageous but not essential. An ongoing position will be offered as a result of this process and a merit pool will be created to fill future opportunities. Our ideal candidate will:
