Position Summary:We are looking for a Senior Scientist to work as a critical member of a multidisciplinary R&D team in our Adelaide facility, fully involved in the development of next generation x-ray fluorescence analysers for online analysis in the minerals industry. The Senior Scientist will conduct research to investigate new design concepts for XRF analysers and subsystems, optimise those designs, and translate those designs into functional prototypes and production articles, develop efficient analytical techniques, and will also actively participate in new analyser developments and existing technology improvement. The right candidate will also be the R&D team on-site point of contact, representing the team for on-site related activities and will be the link with Senior Management (remote).
Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities for the candidate: Serve as the technical lead for the XRF product line and conduct the physics design of XRF analytical systems.Develop new techniques for analyser operation & control, spectral analysis, and calibration.Prepare master test plans for new product development and for existing product improvement, and/or review and validate plans from other R&D colleagues, ensuring that all the technical phases and steps are well planned.Perform and/or lead testing of new products or existing product improvements (in factory or on customer sites) for research and design validation and handle the efficient development documentation reporting and storage.Work closely with Marketing, Sales, Service and Production, to develop and document system level specifications and requirements, and later, provide support to those teams during manufacture, installation and ongoing service phases.Guide other team members in the execution of experiments or feasibility studies.Minimum Qualifications/Experience we expect: At least a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics or in a related field. PhD preferred.Confirmed experience (ideally 5 years at least) in x-ray analyser design.Operational, design and modeling experience of systems using x-ray tubes and silicon drift detectors (SDD).Experience in developing fundamental parameters–based calibration for XRF instruments, and good theoretical and practical knowledge.High understanding of electronics, software and instrumentation for x-ray signal processing.Ability to plan and conduct experiments, and to critically assess results from an experiment campaign.Strong statistics and numerical data analysis skills. Well-developed understanding of fundamental physical principles and their application to real-life situations.Product development experience in industrial environments.Additional Hiring Criteria: Knowledge of mineralogy or mineral processing.Be skilled in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.Be a motivated self-starter, able to work independently towards objectives and as part of a team with the team goals in mind.Possess strong written and verbal communicative skills.Show a confirmed experience to work under delivery dates, and openly communicate on tasks progress.
