About the service
Our client provides a diagnostic pathology service to the ACT and surrounding region. Their laboratories operate 24/7, offering a comprehensive range of testing procedures across two campuses.
The Immunopathology section focuses on advanced testing, including autoantibody screening, allergy testing, serum protein analysis, and CSF oligoclonal bands detection using a wide range of technologies such as indirect immunofluorescence, ELISA, electrophoresis, and more.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Scientist to join our Immunopathology team. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Autoimmune subsection, ensuring the delivery of high-quality testing services. You will lead a team of scientific and junior medical staff, oversee quality control, and collaborate closely with the Chief Scientist and Director of Immunopathology in driving the strategic direction of the department.
Key Duties Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Autoimmune subsection, including performing complex testing and result verification. Maintain and develop operational policies, procedures, and performance indicators to ensure compliance with NPAAC/NATA standards. Lead verification studies and implement new assays into the laboratory. Train, mentor, and motivate staff, fostering a supportive and safe workplace culture. Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning and operational management. Commit to personal development and continuous quality improvement. About You

Skills & Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science, Diagnostic Pathology, or Applied Science with a minimum of five years' experience in a diagnostic laboratory, including experience in Immunopathology. Proven experience in interpreting indirect immunofluorescence assays (e.g., ANA, tissue antibodies) and performing a range of immunoassays using methodologies such as ELISA and chemiluminescence. Experience in supervising and training a team, and conducting quality assessments and laboratory accreditation processes. Strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks, and maintain high standards of accuracy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Position Requirements Availability for weekend and after-hours work, including participation in an on-call roster. Understanding of safety, quality, and clinical governance frameworks. Computer literacy skills relevant to digital health records and other IT systems. Mandatory Pre-Employment Checks National Police Check.
