Teaching - Secondary (Education & Training) The Cathedral School is seeking a Secondary School Teacher to fulfil the role of Senior School Head of House.
Commencing in January 2025, this middle leadership position's role is to ensure the well-being of each student in their House, providing care and support consistent with the mission, aims, and strategic direction of the School.
The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James, located in Mundingburra, is Townsville's only Independent Anglican School for boys and girls from Early Childhood to Year 12 and boarding students from Year 7 to 12.
The school is set amongst a lagoon and lush tropical rain trees creating a wonderful canvas to inspire learning and creativity.

As a Head of House, you will be primarily responsible for: Ensuring the well-being of each Senior School student within their House, fostering a supportive and caring environment.
Leading the development and delivery of a comprehensive House program across the Middle and Senior Schools, encouraging participation and growth.
Overseeing the efficient administration of the House, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.
Supporting, guiding, and building the capacity of Tutor Teachers to maintain good order, discipline, student progress, and to foster a strong House spirit.
Creating a safe, positive, professional, and collegial environment where students are known, cared for, and supported in their learning and development, aligned with the School's mission, aims, and strategic direction.
Qualifications Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or a degree qualification supported by a post-graduate diploma or degree in teaching or education.
Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
Current First Aid and CPR certificates are required and must be kept up to date.
Expertise in teaching the Australian Curriculum and QCAA syllabus/es.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a pastoral team.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
Demonstrated understanding of the development and pastoral needs of individual students.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively and positively with a diverse range of families and personnel.
The Senior School Head of House serves as the primary point of contact for parents regarding student welfare, academic progress, and any concerns that may arise.
They are responsible for knowing each student in their House personally, ensuring their overall well-being, and collaborating with Tutor Teachers to deliver effective pastoral care.
Key Accountabilities: Oversee the induction, transition, academic progress, personal development, behaviour, safety, and well-being of students within the House.
Communicate expectations to students regarding conduct, presentation, attendance, and adherence to School Rules.
Support teachers in maintaining discipline by monitoring student behaviour, assisting in resolving disputes, and ensuring students comply with detentions or other consequences.
Monitor new students' adjustment and provide guidance for students identified as 'at risk.' Facilitate connections with other parts of the school through programs like 'Buddy' schemes.
Provide ongoing guidance in both behaviour and academic performance, documenting strategies, and keeping teachers informed.
Liaise with families and the Health Centre concerning student health and safety.
Collaborate with Learning Support, the Registrar, the Careers Advisor, Indigenous Support, and the Heads of Boarding to address the unique needs and progress of students with learning needs, overseas students, Indigenous students, and boarders.
Monitor the progress of scholarship holders and address any issues that arise.
House Program The Senior School Head of House is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering a comprehensive House program that engages students across both the Middle and Senior Schools.
This program fosters a sense of community, encourages participation, and supports students' personal growth.
Key Accountabilities: Lead the delivery and ongoing development of a House program during designated House time.
Develop and implement a program that identifies and nurtures student leadership within the House.
Collaborate with other Heads of House, the Careers Advisor, Chaplain, Director of Studies, and Health Centre to ensure a coordinated House program.
Management and Administration The Senior School Head of House oversees the efficient administration of the House, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and effective communication between staff, students, and families.
Key Accountabilities: Oversee procedures to monitor and correct: Student uniform and appearance.
Cleanliness and upkeep of school grounds.
Maintenance and security of locker areas.
Student punctuality.
Student absences.
Proper use of student diaries.
Day school leave for students.
Plan and execute House events and special occasions in collaboration with the Head of Senior School - Deputy Principal.
Communicate with parents, guardians, and caregivers regularly regarding student matters.
Provide updates to staff on individual student progress as needed.
Assist with the preparation of publications and correspondence related to the House.
Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of Semester Reports in line with School standards.
Meet weekly with the Head of Senior School - Deputy Principal to discuss House matters.
Contribute material related to the House for the Dawn Magazine.
Leading Staff The Senior School Head of House provides leadership, guidance, and professional development for Tutor Teachers, ensuring they can effectively maintain discipline, support student progress, and strengthen House spirit.
Key Accountabilities: Lead the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and the Re LATE (Reframing Learning and Teaching Environments) program.
Provide leadership and support for Tutors by conducting regular meetings.
Take necessary actions to ensure accountability among Tutors.
Communicate relevant student issues with staff as appropriate.
Participate in ongoing Professional Development relevant to the role.
Research and report on 'best practices' in educational pastoral care.
Model appropriate behaviour, presentation, and a positive attitude.
All staff at Cathedral are expected to support the philosophies of the school, must either hold or be able to obtain a Blue Card and/or be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
