About the Role This is a Fixed Term, full-time position until 31/12/2026. The Senior Project Officer is a highly motivated, responsive and valued member of the Road Safety Program Delivery team. The role will support the Road Safety Program Manager in delivering the Medicinal Cannabis Closed Circuit Track Trial, playing a crucial role in advancing road safety initiatives focused on reducing fatalities and serious injuries across our road network.
Your primary responsibility will be to oversee project reporting, governance, financial management, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of key activities and milestones. The role requires independent judgment to proactively identify and resolve challenges, monitoring project progress, and mitigate risks. The role demands a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in project documentation, reporting, and the execution of all tasks. The ideal applicant will have a track record in developing and delivering successful complex projects in a road safety, public policy, public health or similar field.
You will contribute to the development of comprehensive, evidence-driven road safety policies and strategies, ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals. This role involves the drafting of policy briefings to senior management and other government departments on road safety issues related to the Medicinal Cannabis Track Trial.
The role also involves negotiating and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders, including Road Safety Partners, government departments, research partners, and community groups, to achieve successful road safety outcomes. A strong understanding of interdepartmental protocols and political sensitivity is crucial for strengthening stakeholder engagement and building collaborative relationships.
Leveraging your expertise in project delivery, policy and stakeholder engagement, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, government agencies, and community stakeholders to support the delivery of the Medicinal Cannabis Track Trial and other road safety initiatives and projects within the Road Safety Program.
Position Outcomes The role involves delivering projects with precision, managing governance processes, and fostering collaboration with diverse stakeholders to ensure road safety initiatives align with plans and objectives. It includes developing evidence-based policies, managing budgets and resources, prioritising tasks, mitigating risks, and promoting a safe, inclusive, and flexible team environment.
Key Selection Criteria KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Project Delivery (Applied) - Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience including using different project methodologies, governance models, and risk management approaches. Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required. Significant experience in developing, implementing, and managing high impact, complex, successful and influential projects in road safety, public sector policy, or social services environment.Policy Design and Development (Applied) - Interprets and applies policies relevant to own work; Drafts briefing materials using research skills and in consultation with relevant stakeholders; Determines relevant data and evidence gathering approach; Conducts critical analysis on data and evidence collected.Stakeholder Management (Applied) - Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with a network of key internal and external stakeholders.
