The primaryfocus of this role is to review contracts and manage operationalrisk, and to support the Risk Manager, the General Counsel and theLegal Excellence and Risk (LER ) team with theimplementation of the firm's legal excellence and riskmanagement framework.
Keyresponsibilities Thesuccessful candidate will be responsible for:
assisting to identify,describe and estimate the risks (both new and existing)affecting the firm; reviewing compliance bylegal teams with the firm's legal excellence and riskmanagement policies and procedures, including by conductingregular file audits and reporting back to firm management andthe Risk Committee on the key results and themes; workingwith the Chief Operating Officer (COO ) (andothers in the LER Team as required) to manage the firm'sgeneral (non-PI) insurance policies and ensuring each policy isreviewed (to consider the terms of the various policies and theextent of coverage) and renewed annually; assisting the GeneralCounsel (GC ) when required with themanagement, review and renewal of the firm's PI insurancepolicies and broker arrangements; implementing andmaintaining an appropriate system to capture the firm'sinsurance renewals, policy information and nuances; reviewing directorshipapplications and documents, including advising the GC, liaisingwith the relevant applicant and managing issues that mayarise; reviewing clients'terms of engagement for external legal suppliers and otherthird party contracts. In particular, assessing thefirm's compliance requirements and coordinating theserequirements with partners and firm management; managinglegal and operation issues relating to tenders includinginsurance related queries; assisting other membersof the LER Team to manage the firm's engagementagreements, including updating the appointment terms to ensurecompliance with the disclosure obligations of the relevantlegal profession legislation and providing or assisting withtraining as required; assisting the RiskManager and the GC with general day to day risk managementactivities, such as conflict assessment and management andmanagement of the firm's privacy obligations, thepreparation and presentation of risk management and compliancetraining, policy creation, and the creation and maintenance ofrisk management registers; assisting the RiskManager with the conduct of privacy impact assessments(PIAs ); Workingwith the Information Security Manager (and other members of theLER Team) to develop and maintain the firm's cybersecurity risk management framework and assisting in managingthe firm's response to any cyber security incidents;and ensuringcontinuous review and improvement of operational risk policiesand procedures. Skills andexperience We are keento hear from candidates with the following skills andexperience:
risk andcompliance experience gained in either private practice (legalor accounting) or an in-house corporate role; riskmanagement, compliance or auditing qualifications or experiencewould be advantageous; legalqualification and experience is preferable; highlyorganised, able to work under pressure to strict deadlines andmaintain strong attention to detail; theability to show initiative and work independently, as well aspart of a team; and theability to build strong working relationships with people atall levels.
