Come join the multidisciplinary team as a member of the Queensland Police Service's (QPS) Operational Research Unit. Our team supports the QPS intelligence capability by providing evidence-based advice to reduce crime and make the community safer.

As part of the Operational Research team, you will work closely with a talented and innovative team to complete high-quality professional research projects on various matters including crime trends, policing practice, and preventative programs. You will use existing research and various quantitative and qualitative methods to guide practice in an intelligence environment. The outcomes and findings from your work will inform policing practices and assist to improve community safety.

As part of this role, you'll also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support operational policing and key QPS projects and initiatives.

The Core Capability Requirements For This Role Are: Provide high quality, well-researched advice to senior management in relation to QPS Intelligence and operational priorities and respond to such issues by developing effective evidence based policing options and strategies. Perform project and research tasks aimed at the investigation, analysis and critical evaluation of intelligence led issues. Contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team to the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of Whole of Government strategies and QPS strategic and operational plans. Monitor, evaluate and review policies and practices across Government and within the QPS, and liaise and negotiate with those agencies to achieve an appropriate holistic response. Produce timely and accurate information to be used for the purpose of evaluating programs, providing a basis for planning and policy development. Consult and liaise effectively with other areas of the QPS and relevant Government departments and non-government organisations, as appropriate, and represent the QPS on inter-agency forums. Assist in the identification, development and analysis of complex operational options and provide high level advice on complex issues and findings. Prepare papers, submissions, briefs and correspondence for senior management, the Minister, cabinet and other diverse audiences. Prepare and present written reports, briefings, evaluations, and executive correspondence to senior management and key stakeholders. Mandatory Role Requirements: The successful applicant/s will be required to undergo psychometric assessment prior to appointment. Qualification: Possession of a degree in Law, Criminology or Criminal Justice from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications is mandatory. Technical/ Operational/ Educational Experience: Experience with data analysis and visualisation (such as R, Jasp, Excel, PowerBI, etc.) is desirable. Other: Applicants are advised that whilst performing the duties of the position they may be exposed to material (written, visual and audio) of a graphic and sensitive nature.
