Job DescriptionRole Summary
The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Fellow to join our team as an Associate Professor/Professor in Mechanical Circulatory Support. This is a key position for the MRFF funded Artificial Heart Frontiers Program operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the research efforts in the development of a miniaturised blood pump (MiniPump) including mechanical, electrical, design, control, and pre-clinical evaluation components to ensure MRFF project milestones are met.Lead the product development through the pre-clinical testing pathway using appropriate simulation, benchtop and in-vivo models.Establish new and strengthen existing partnerships with external partners including clinicians, scientists, engineers and industry partners to accelerate the development of the MiniPump.Provide regular reports to the Program Directors and funding organisation including performance against project KPI's and milestones.Leadership of AHFP development teams and management of AHFP projects, including financial management, attracting and retaining talent, and associated administrative functions.Contribute to commercialisation activities including developing and maintaining an evidence-based understanding of market needs and competitors and attracting income for the AHFP including government funding and venture capital.Contribute to the publication of data and research findings in prestigious scientific and clinical journals, representing the group at national and international scientific meetings and attending meetings on behalf of AHFP team.Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.Requirements
Completion of a doctoral qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or similar field with extensive experience leading the development and commercialization of rotary blood pumps.Demonstrated excellence in leading mechanical circulatory support (MCS) design, prototyping and testing and demonstrated experience in taking early feasibility MCS prototypes to manufacture.Proven experience of at least 10 years working in a regulated environment and conversant with GLP and GMP regulations, practices and methodologies including demonstrated knowledge of industry standards for medical device development.Demonstrated success at establishing and developing strong stakeholder relationships within a complex research and development environment with cross-functional teams and high-level external partners, to achieve best practices, implement leading solutions, and realise new opportunities.Strong written and verbal communications skills and excellent public speaking/ presentation skills with an ability to pitch ideas and engage audiences at all levels.Proven leadership experience including management of multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams and large-scale research and development projects and budgets, with demonstrated capacity to establish and achieve goals.Experience in successfully supervising, mentoring and coaching to support the development of staff and in establishing and leading a successful team and/or demonstrated evidence of leadership capability.Remuneration and Benefits
The classification for this position is Academic Level D (LEVD) or Academic Level E (LEVE) with an annual remuneration range of AUD $192,265 to $247,679 pa, inclusive of an annual salary range of AUD $162,466 to $209,292 pa, 17% superannuation and leave loading.
