About Us:
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Victorian Law Reform Commission's Community Law Reform program.
The advertised role will work on Community Law Reform projects and other publications.
The right candidate(s) will have highly developed legal and non-legal research skills and proven ability to analyse complex legal and policy issues.
You will have a demonstrated ability to identify reform trends and develop options for improving law and practice.
Complimenting these skills you will have highly developed writing skills, excellent oral communication, liaison and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work with external stakeholders.
About the Role:
This position is for an experienced senior research and policy officer.
The work will predominantly be in legal research, stakeholder consultations and the production of law reform publications.
You will have excellent legal research, policy and writing skills, be a good communicator and be able to work effectively in a small team.
Some of your duties will include:
Undertaking high-level legal and non-legal research into complex and diverse areas of the law and practice.
Drafting publications for editing by the Team Leader and Commission Chairperson.
Developing options and recommendations for reform of the law and practice.
Liaising with stakeholders and participating in consultations with individuals and groups on diverse areas of the law.
Speaking at public functions, high schools and seminars on the work of the Commission or on particular projects.
Responding to community law reform suggestions and requests for information from members of the community.
About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
Highly developed legal and non-legal research skills and proven ability to conduct research into complex legal and policy issues.
Evidence of highly developed writing skills including the ability to simplify and communicate complex issues of policy and law reform to a non-legal audience in a range of publications and formats.
Ability to identify trends and opportunities for law and policy reform and develop options for improving law and practice.
Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse, absorb, and manage large volumes of material and produce written work to agreed timetables.
Experience of law reform processes and methodology.
Experience of community consultation processes and public speaking.
