Neonatology cares for the sickest newborn babies, infants who are born preterm and babies requiring specialist treatment in their first months of life. Successful applicants will have the skills to manage inpatients, outpatients, and emergency patients under the supervision of Neonatology Specialists. We have Neonatal Units across two sites, the Perinatal Centre - King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH); and the surgical centre - Perth Children's Hospital (PCH). Additionally, we have the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS) WA located at Perth Children's Hospital.
These positions are on a shift-based roster, to provide a 24-hour/7-day service, including after-hours shifts. Applications will be considered for Fixed-Term Full Time positions for 12-24 months with the possibility of extension(s). Part-Time requests will be considered on individual basis. The Neonatology Department is composed of several specialized units:
KEMH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, situated in Subiaco, stands as the largest tertiary/quaternary perinatal NICU in Australia. Approximately 2,200 babies who are born preterm, need respiratory support or require other intensive treatment are admitted to the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) NICU each year. The NICU admits approximately 150 neonates born at PCH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, located within the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands, serves as the sole tertiary surgical NICU in Western Australia. This unit presents an excellent chance to engage with the diagnosis and management of a diverse range of neonatal surgical conditions and congenital anomalies. Additionally, the PCH NICU handles the majority of outborn infants requiring neonatal intensive care. Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS WA), situated at PCH, is intricately involved in the retrieval and transport of ill newborns from both metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. Covering the largest geographical area in the world for a single neonatal retrieval service; retrieving by road, helicopter, and fixed wing aircraft. Opportunities also exist for participation in the retrieval and transfer of cardiac patients to children's hospitals in Melbourne and Brisbane. Please state your most recent Neonatal experience as a Neonatal Registrar, Paediatric Registrar, or Neonatal Senior Registrar/ Fellow in a tertiary Neonatal Centre (within the last 5 years) with at least 6 months experience. Please provide dates and locations of the experience. (Essential Criteria 2) Please provide an example of your high-level competencies and expert-level expertise within a neonatal intensive care context, particularly focusing on your advanced skills in neonatal airway management. (Essential Criteria 3) Please provide an example of a complex case from your experience in neonatal intensive care where your demonstrated expert knowledge and advanced skills played a pivotal role in achieving a positive outcome for both the newborn and their family? How did you ensure that family-centred care was effectively integrated into your approach throughout the course of treatment? (Essential Criteria 3 & 7) Please provide examples of how you demonstrate your commitment to professional development, including experience in clinical teaching, auditing, and research. Attach a copy of your current CV/Resume outlining your most recent and relevant work experience.
