About the Role The Senior Rail Engineering Technical Advisor sits within the Standards and Transport Engineering Branch (STE) of A&E and reports to the Senior Manager, Rail Engineering. They will provide expert technical advice and leadership across heavy and light rail disciplines for DTP. They are an engineering professional who has 15+ years of technical experience, with the majority being in a rail environment.
The Senior Rail Engineering Technical Advisor is responsible for providing guidance and advice to the Chief Engineer, Rail, the Rail Engineering Principal Engineers, other divisions within DTP, rail transport operators (RTOs), and delivery agencies.
Your Outcomes and Accountabilities Provide strategic thinking and technical leadership to DTP and its stakeholders concerning planning, development, delivery, and operation of all rail public transport systems and other supporting infrastructure across the asset lifecycle. Support the Chief Engineer, Rail in providing Rail Engineering capability to support the transport capability development programs across DTP. Support Rail Modelling activities undertaken within A&E. Prepare and present reports, technical and professional documents, Ministerial briefs, and Cabinet and agency committee submissions. Ensure that the management of safety is paramount and implements sector best practice processes and procedures. Support the development of strategic and operational plans, organisational design and performance, budget preparation, and management. Build strong collaborative relationships within the STE Branch, A&E, DTP, other divisions, transport operators, and all relevant stakeholders. Key Selection Criteria We are looking for a leader in rail engineering with deep expertise in providing expert advice and recommendations and a strong understanding of the Victorian Rail Networks. Your skills in evaluating and resolving complex design, operational, and stakeholder issues will be essential, and you'll demonstrate advanced research and analytical skills to anticipate trends and mitigate risks.
Exceptional communication skills are crucial; you'll communicate with clarity, credibility, and impact, adeptly handling sensitive topics and engaging others effectively.
Qualifications and Experience Desirable Project management experience, including for public transport and technology projects. Public transport experience, either directly or overseeing activities of a service contractor. Experience interacting with contractors on site and managing site issues. A relevant tertiary qualification in transportation engineering, construction management or project management is highly regarded.
