As a Senior Public Policy Advisor , you will make a difference by contributing to RAC's sustainable social and community impact activities seeking to lower vehicle emissions for cleaner, healthier air.
This role will be offered on a maximum term contract until September 2025.
The opportunity Reporting to the Senior Manager Public Policy, you will research and analyse complex topics related to reducing vehicle emissions for cleaner and healthier air, delivering credible, technically sound, fact-based evidence to support RAC's policy positions and projects. This could include topics such as: barriers and facilitators to community adoption of clean vehicle technologies; the impact of vehicle emissions on air health and the environment; and reforms to road user charges (such as fuel excise).
More specific responsibilities include: Research and prepare reports, papers, submissions and communication materials Identify and assess industry trends and developments. Provide research and public policy advice to influence or respond to government policy. Respond to queries from members and external organisations. Scope, commission and manage projects as required. Identify opportunities to reach members with fact-based sustainable transport content in an engaging and meaningful way and ensure content is appropriate and accurate. Investigate and develop potential new RAC policy positions on sustainable transport. Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders covering both government and industry. Represent RAC on external committees and working groups, and present RAC research and insights to technical and non-technical audiences. What are we looking for? Qualifications in public policy, environmental or social sciences, required. Experience writing policy, discussion papers, submissions and reports. Experience working for an advocacy group, transport or other State Government authority, local government, consultancy or similar. Technical, conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communicative skills, and an attention to detail. Ability to participate in and influence a variety of internal and external committees and other forums.
