About the Role The Senior Psychiatric Nurse (SPN) plays a pivotal leadership role within the Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (GMHWS), championing the professional and clinical advancement of mental health nursing.
In this role, you will guide psychiatric nurses, fostering their growth through professional supervision, education, and strategic workforce development.
You will drive initiatives that strengthen nursing practice, oversee professional development and student placements, and contribute to the delivery of exceptional, recovery-focused mental health care.
This is an opportunity to lead meaningful change, support a skilled nursing workforce, and provide expert guidance for complex cases.
Key Responsibilities Coordinate and oversee professional development, training, and education programs to enhance recovery-oriented nursing practices.
Lead the development and implementation of nursing governance and workforce strategies aligned with the Workforce Capability Framework (2023).
Act as a resource and mentor for mental health nurses, sharing expert knowledge and providing clinical guidance across the service.
Collaborate on workforce planning and strategy development with senior mental health leadership.
Ensure high standards of clinical nursing practice and models of care are established and maintained.
Provide professional supervision and support, actively promoting participation in clinical supervision and contributing to supervision guidelines.
Skills & Experience Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Div. 1).
Postgraduate qualifications in psychiatric/mental health nursing or to have completed a specialist undergraduate Mental Health Nursing program or a specialist undergraduate Mental Health Nursing program post basic course of training which previously led to registration as a Division 3 Nurse.
Completed or working towards a Certificate IV Training and Assessment or equivalent Proven leadership skills with a track record of fostering positive team cultures and stakeholder collaboration.
Strong management skills with the ability to lead and implement change effectively.
Comprehensive understanding of the Mental Health & Wellbeing Act (2022) and Workforce Capability Framework (2023).
