Queensland Police Service (Organisation site: )Prosecution Services; Legal Division; Specialist Operations; Mount Isa Prosecution Services provides the prosecutorial function to members of the Service on matters before the Magistrates, Childrens and Coroners Courts.
This position requires supervision of subordinate staff.
Mt Isa Police Prosecution Corps is a medium sized establishment with a satellite office in Normanton.
Prosecutors are responsible for police related matters in Mt Isa Magistrates Court District in addition to servicing circuit courts of Birdsville, Boulia, Camooweal, Cloncurry, Dajarra, Julia Creek and the Gulf Circuit, prosecuting matters at Mornington Island, Normanton, Doomadgee and Burketown.
This position offers a broad level of experience across all Magistrates Court criminal matters, providing a depth of skill and expertise in prosecuting, with the added dimension of circuit courts.
Your Key Accountabilities: Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police for use in summary trials and for committal proceedings to ensure the highest quality of briefs is maintained.
Liaise, consult and negotiate with members of the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community towards the establishment of effective working relationships and achievement of desired policing outcomes.
Take a lead role in the development and provision of quality legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
Manage resources in accordance with Service policy to achieve efficient operations for the area of responsibility.
Establish and model maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
May include coordination activities for Specialist Courts and diversionary initiatives as directed by the Superintendent.
Role Requirements: Mandatory: Admission as, eligibility for immediate admission as, or entitlement to practice as, a legal practitioner in the State of Queensland.
