Multiple full-time short-term vacancies available up to 12 months within Adelaide Prosecution Unit, Central Prosecution Unit (CPU) and Prosecution Support Unit (PSU). About the positions: Adelaide Prosecution Unit
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is accountable to the Prosecution Manager for the provision of prosecution services including adjudication, negotiation and advocacy. The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to manage prosecution files across the full range of complexity. The incumbent is also responsible for the supervision, development, leadership and support and health and safety of all subordinate staff under their control and for maintaining a discrimination and harassment-free workplace.
In all regional locations (except Port Augusta Prosecution Unit) a Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is responsible for a range of administrative and functional activities associated with the ongoing performance of the unit and is therefore regarded as the Prosecution Supervisor. In these circumstances, the Senior Prosecuting Solicitor, as the Prosecution Supervisor, reports to the Prosecution Manager and provides criminal justice system expertise to the Tactical Coordination Group (TCG).
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to act in accordance with the ethics of the legal profession.
Central Prosecution Unit
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor, CPU, is accountable to the Prosecution Manager, CPU for the provision of prosecution services including adjudication, negotiation and advocacy. The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to manage complex prosecution files and files determined to be significant or declared by Prosecution Services Branch and where the need arises, undertake contested hearing(s) for these same matters. The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor, CPU is also expected to provide leadership and assistance to support other prosecutors and prosecuting solicitors within Prosecution Services Branch.
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to act in accordance with the ethics of the legal profession.
Prosecution Support Unit
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor, PSU, is accountable to the Prosecution Manager PSU and Officer in Charge Strategy and Support Section for providing legal services relevant to appeals or subpoenas (whether by prosecution or defence), or any other legal issue associated with matters prosecuted by Prosecution Services Branch (PSB) prosecutors. The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor will, in consultation with the OC Strategy and Support Section act as instructing solicitor to the Crown Solicitor's Office in SAPOL appeal and subpoena matters. A characteristic of the position is significant professional autonomy which the incumbent is expected to exercise at all times in accordance with legal professional and ethical obligations regarding instructions from PSB management.
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is responsible for identifying and advising PSB management strategic issues associated with appeals, subpoenas or any other legal matter and is expected to work in close alignment with Prosecution Training Unit and the Policy and Advice Officer as required, and perform such other duties relevant to the position as directed by the OC Strategy and Support Section. The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to provide leadership and assistance to support other prosecutors and prosecuting solicitors within PSB.
The Senior Prosecuting Solicitor is expected to act in accordance with the ethics of the legal profession.
Special Conditions The incumbent must hold a current Australian work eligibility status and will be subject to a criminal history check. The incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent. Some out of hours work and intra/interstate travel may be required. The incumbent is required to participate in SAPOL's iEngage program. Requirements
A degree in law and admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
Salary
LE4 - $118,529 - $129,582 per annum.
