The Biosecurity Strategy and Reform Division focuses on protecting Australia from increasing biosecurity risks to agriculture, the environment, and our way of life by continuously improving the national biosecurity system. We provide quality, evidence-based policy advice and reform agendas to the department executive, Minister, and Australian Government, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
The Risk, Intelligence and Strategy Branch supports and enhances strategic decision-making through intelligence analysis, risk modelling, and governance practices. It identifies emerging risks, threats, and disruptions, developing frameworks for strategic thinking within line areas.
The Biosecurity System Modelling Section works at the interface of analytics, modelling, and biosecurity policy, developing solutions to assess the performance of Australia's biosecurity system at a whole-of-system level.
The key duties of the position include:The purpose of the Senior Project Officer role is to facilitate engagement with stakeholders and development of project proposals using analytics and modelling to support evidence-based decision-making about the biosecurity system. Under limited supervision, the Senior Project Officer is expected to:
Engage with policy and technical areas, senior decision-makers, and other stakeholders to understand end-user priorities and contribute to reporting.Develop consultation materials (e.g., discussion papers, surveys, presentations) and organise meetings and forums to support engagement with senior decision-makers.Synthesise findings from stakeholder consultations.Draft written materials like project proposals, strategies, and business cases for analytics and modelling projects.Help develop governance arrangements to ensure analytics and modelling products meet the needs of senior decision-makers.Contribute to section documentation of analytical processes and tools.What we are looking for:Knowledge and experience Experience in communication and engagement with senior executives, including developing and evaluating communications plans and strategies.Knowledge and experience in project/program management methodologies and business case development (experience with data and digital projects is highly regarded).Knowledge of Australia's biosecurity system and/or best practices in regulatory decision-making is desirable.RecruitAbility applies to this vacancy.
