About the Role
*This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2025* The Senior Project Officer is responsible for undertaking policy research and analysis to support the development of advice to the Government on major planning legislation and regulation reforms.
The role is suited to candidates with specific expertise in planning or legislation and regulation policy.
You will be responsible for policy development, leading internal and public consultations, providing strategic advice, and developing and delivering significant legislative and regulatory planning reform initiatives.
Contribute, as part of a team, to the development, review and evaluation of complex and innovative legislative reform options, supported by advice, that deliver on the government's planning reform priorities.Prepare authoritative, timely, and evidence-based advice for Ministers and the Department's executive management on complex and emerging legislative issues that is suitable for its audience and demonstrates a detailed understanding of the policy, political and legal context.Draft high quality, authoritative and timely written documents including project plans, briefs, policy papers and cabinet submissions.Initiate, build and maintain effective relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues, the department's executives and internal and external stakeholders through a professional and collaborative approach to support the development and delivery of legislative changes to progress planning reform priorities.Work flexibly and collaboratively across the business to deliver business unit, group and DTP priorities and initiatives as required.Practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.To be successful in this role, you will be accomplished in policy design and development, drawing on data and insights to create effective, evidence-based policies with clear objectives and narratives.
You will excel in critical thinking and problem-solving, delivering tangible outcomes by considering multiple perspectives and the broader context.
Your expertise in project delivery will enable you to translate strategies into successful programs with defined governance.
Additionally, you will demonstrate a strong understanding of political and organisational contexts, as well as the ability to build and manage authentic, mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders.
On a personal level, you will be accomplished in working collaboratively, guiding others to foster a culture of cooperation, and proactively overcoming barriers to knowledge sharing.
You will identify opportunities to work with other teams to achieve successful outcomes.
Additionally, you will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability by adjusting your approach in line with changing priorities, being open to acquiring new skills, and responding quickly and comfortably to changes.
You will also be at ease working collaboratively with teams outside of your own organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
