Raine Island Recovery ProjectThis is a unique opportunity to work in a small project team to deliver the Raine Island Recovery Project, a priority project under the RJFMP. Raine Island, a cay in the northern Great Barrier Reef, supports nesting for 90% of the northern Great Barrier Reef green turtle population and is a significant seabird rookery. The role will assist in delivering Phase 2 of the Project by providing input into the research methodology, work program, reporting and undertaking field work.The OpportunityThe Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service's Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA), operate the Reef Joint Field Management Program (RJFMP) for the management of the marine and island national parks within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.This position will be responsible for the monitoring program on marine turtle and seabirds, undertake and lead field work, identification of research gaps, sharing knowledge and prompting Project activities (through publications, reports, media, conferences), delivering training and data management. You will be required to liaise closely with the Scientific Advisory Group including providing secretarial support, as well as supporting the governance of the Project. You will work closely with project partners, including RJFMP staff, Wuthathi and Meriam Nation (Ugar, Mer, Erub) First Nations People, other State and Federal Government Departments and researchers, to achieve the Project outcomes.A considerable proportion of your time will involve working and consulting with the Wuthathi and Meriam Nation People including during field operations and will include attending meetings.This position will be based in Cairns. However, travel to regional centres and other offices from time to time will be required. This includes overnight stays. You will be required to undertake work in remote areas on marine vessels and islands for extended periods of up to 14 days.
