Queensland Hydro will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.The PurposeThe Senior Project Engineer – Main Works (Shafts) will play a key role in supporting the delivery of underground Main Works by providing engineering and project management expertise, ensuring high-quality project design, review, and implementation, while overseeing construction execution and maintaining quality assurance for underground excavations and associated structures.The RoleThe Senior Project Engineer – Main Works (Shafts) is responsible for providing constructability input and design reviews for underground excavations and structures, coordinating technical responses to contractor inquiries, ensuring proper documentation for works, and conducting safety and progress inspections. The role supports program delivery by addressing construction issues, evaluating geohazards, and ensuring effective communication of ground conditions. Additionally, the engineer liaises with the project team, manages health and safety compliance, oversees interfaces with other work areas, and contributes to schedule, cost reviews, and risk mitigation strategies to support successful project execution.About youThe ideal candidate will have a degree in mining, civil, or geotechnical engineering, or a related field, with at least 8 years of experience in underground hard rock mining or tunnelling, including project commencement and infrastructure planning. A strong understanding of modern underground mining/civil practices and experience with underground contractors is essential, along with excellent communication skills and adaptability. The candidate should also have experience delivering underground works, assessing ground risks, and using 3D modelling software such as Primavera. Strong project management skills, health and safety awareness, and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams are key.
