The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) located in North West Queensland is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd. The greenfield project site is located approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry.
 
The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The mine site will include development of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project are supported by the Harmony South East Asia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execute Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will begin July 2024 with commencement of front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
The Senior Project Engineer – Roads & Villages will be responsible for providing planning, engineering, and site construction support for the successful execution and delivery of roads and village accommodation associated infrastructure. This role is required to provide site support services to early works construction.
Responsibilities include: Coordinating technical activities on-site, to deliver the Roads and Village defined scope. Ensure design work compliance with all relevant safety, health and environment policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines in conjunction with other Project disciplines. Lead contract and construction management of the following packages:establishment of temporary site infrastructure for roads and village. site access road construction. construction and operations village construction. bulk earthworks for village and construction laydown pad. temporary power and bored water. Contractor management of the Roads and Village contractors. Management of scope budgets, schedules and project plans and procedures. Assist in the development of departmental budget consistent with the project phase, particularly within area of influence, as well as project charters and company strategic plans. Provides technical / construction support for the Roads and Village contractors and supports operational process development (operational readiness). Preparation and review of engineering work packs for tender, award and site construction / commissioning works. Managing vendor / contractor work packages for Roads and Village ensuring packages are delivered within agreed budget and timelines. Through project coordination meetings and other forms of communication, oversees and coordinates the technical and construction aspects of the Roads and Village scopes. Prepares status reports and regularly monitors budgets, consultants/contractors and schedules. Establish and coordinate interfaces internally within engineering, with other disciplines within the project, consultant/contractor teams and other third parties. Working with the Construction Contractors to ensure that the engineering design is fit for purpose and best value for money. Ensure that the quality of the engineering design and construction meets projects requirements.  What you will bring to Harmony: Bachelor degree (or higher) in relevant discipline. Minimum 7 Years experience within the mining/construction industry in a Senior Project / Construction Management or equivalent role. Experience in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Roads and remote Villages. Experience with Bulk Earthworks, Road Construction and services utilities. Strong analytical, planning, problem solving and negotiation skills. Focus on Safety in Design. Mining Industry Supervisor - S123 qualification or eligible to meet the requirements to attend. C Class Driver's Licence.  Location
This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our sites in Cloncurry QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. Our roster is 8 days on, 6 days off. You will also, at times, be required to work in the Project office in Brisbane.
