The Team You will join a team of a highly motivated and collaborative professionals that work in the Enterprise Transformation Group.
The Enterprise Transformation Group is made up of two Divisions, the Chief Information Officer Division and the Enterprise Strategy and Transformation Division, that have been established to drive the AEC's transformation agenda, and to deliver the Election Systems Modernisation Program, Indigo Program, on behalf of the agency.
The Indigo Program is the AEC's once in a generation digital transformation which is modernising core systems used to deliver elections and maintain the electoral roll.
Key goals of the Indigo Program are to improve experiences for AEC staff and citizens, and to ensure that the integrity of Australia's democratic systems is maintained into the future.
The Indigo Product and Design Branch within Enterprise Strategy and Transformation Division ensures new solutions delivered by the Indigo Program meet the strategic goals of the agency, improve services for end users, meet business needs and follow industry standard best practice.

You will operate in a fast paced, dynamic environment, working closely with Directors, Assistant Commissioners, First Assistant Commissioners, and all areas across the Enterprise Transformation Group.
The Opportunity The Senior Program Officer will bring design and product expertise to the Branch, working in the Product Management Centre of Excellence to ensure products are built to modern standards of usability and accessibility.
This role will work closely with the multi-disciplinary agile delivery teams to promote consistency across product design to provide integrated end user experiences.
The role will also manage and support various projects across the Branch, including helping to lead and manage the user acceptance testing process.
As a visible member of the Product Management Centre of Excellence, this role will, above all, be an ambassador for the product back to the broader agency and end users.
This position is especially suited to those who have completed the APS Digital Graduate Program or similar design orientated graduate programs, seeking to advance their career.
The Senior Program Officer will work to support the delivery of the Indigo Program.
The key responsibilities for the role include providing expertise in design, including service design, product design, and user centred design, to the Product Management Centre of Excellence and multi-disciplinary agile delivery teams.
You will be responsible for managing and contributing to complex projects in support of the program and branch, including the user advisory group network and supporting the Assistant Director, Product Assurance in delivering user acceptance testing and other quality assurance processes.
Additionally, you will build and maintain strong relationships with key business and program stakeholders to ensure the Product Management Centre of Excellence has the moral authority to represent the broader agency and end users within the agile development process.
You will be drafting governance committee papers and position papers on behalf of the Centre of Excellence, and serve as a broader leader within the program, setting standards of behaviour, quality, and contributing to a high-performing team environment.
When needed, you will act as a Product Owner or Product Manager within a development team.
This position may have direct reports which may include both APS staff and contractors.
To excel you'll have:
Understanding of best practice design methodologies and applying those in a government services context. Strong stakeholder management skills, with an ability to build and maintain relationships and negotiate outcomes within those stakeholder relationships. Strong critical thinking skills, with an ability to communicate complex concepts and communicate those to a range of audiences. Ability to manage and coordinate projects that contribute to the broader success of a program. Aptitude to quickly learn and digest technical information relating to bespoke application design and development. Experience of succeeding in an environment working independently, including managing and prioritising a complex workload. Ability to effectively manage staff in addition to delivering own work, including daily supervision, setting deliverables, and developing staff. Desirable Experience of delivering UAT and/or release management. Experience working in a product management role. Experience in electoral event planning and/or delivery. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or industry recognised certifications. Eligibility AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
