The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill the role of Senior Privacy Manager within the Privacy Section in our Legislative Compliance and Parliamentary Branch.
The team is spread across several ABS offices, though preference is to fill the role in Canberra, Brisbane, or Melbourne.
However, we are open to considering applicants from Adelaide, Sydney, or Hobart.
The successful candidate will work from their local office, with flexible working arrangements available, including a hybrid model of working from home and the office.
About the Role The purpose of the Privacy Section is to support the ABS' effective compliance with privacy and other related legislation and policy, and to promote and help foster a Privacy-by-Design approach across the ABS.
We also keep informed of relevant legislative changes and lead responses to meet these changes.
Responsibilities may include undertaking privacy threshold and impact assessments; supporting external consultations on privacy matters; managing external privacy service providers; and providing advisory support to ABS business areas on privacy and data governance matters.
The Senior Privacy Manager (APS6) will have the opportunity to: work with stakeholders to identify and understand their privacy concerns and requirements to then develop improved, fit for purpose, privacy enhancing solutions.
support the delivery of the ABS privacy management program in collaboration with stakeholders and partners.
support and promote privacy-by-design across the organisation to embed good privacy practices into the design of business practices, technologies and physical infrastructures.
understand the ABS data environment and data policy landscape and identifying changes to the broader privacy environment that may impact the privacy work program.
build and sustain relationships with stakeholders across the ABS on privacy matters to support critical ABS programs, projects and initiatives.
undertake, or provide advice on undertaking, privacy threshold and impact assessments.
support external consultations on privacy matters.
provide advisory support to ABS business areas on privacy matters.
develop privacy skills through on-the-job learning and/or through formal privacy training.
What we are looking for (selection criteria) To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience: well-developed critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving and reasoning skills.
stakeholder engagement capabilities, showcasing a history of successful collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and collaborate on solutions.
well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
ability to apply project management methods to drive successful outcomes or continuous improvement.
demonstrated experience in managing and leading teams across multiple locations, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
