The Role
We currently have a secondment opportunity available for an experienced Senior Privacy and Information Lawyer within a high profile Commonwealth Department. Ideal candidates will have skills and experience in advising on thePrivacy Act 1988(Cth), legislative reforms and information sharing regimes.
The Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Department's in-house legal team. High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate will be required to provide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas, including briefing senior executives.
A Privacy and Information law practitioner with experience working on Commonwealth legal reforms would be well suited to this role, possessing knowledge and experience in:
advising on matters arising under thePrivacy Act 1988including providing guidance to the department on issues or complaints that raise Privacy Act considerations;reviewing Privacy Threshold Assessments (PTAs) for departmental projects involving personal information, and coordinating completion of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Privacy Audits (PAs);managing privacy compliance within the department and leading whole-of-department privacy capability through development and review of privacy training and privacy governance documents;providing legal advice on matters arising under theFreedom of Information Act 1982;information sharing; andproviding general advice on privacy and information law.The Requirements
A current practising certificate and extensive experience providing legal advice under thePrivacy Act 1988(Cth) andFreedom of Information Act 1982(Cth) is essential.
Applicants must be Australian citizens and have a current Baseline Security Clearance.
