Legal Aid is seeking an experienced legal professional to take on a leadership role in delivering high quality legal services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people. As a Senior Principal Lawyer you will report directly to the Executive Director, Regional Services and will lead a busy team of legal, cultural and client engagement, and administrative staff providing efficient and effective services to the community. Services include legal information, advice and representation in family, criminal and civil law cases, duty lawyer services in the criminal, family and civil law courts. About the role As the Senior Principal Lawyer, you will represent legally aided clients in complex criminal law matters and in relation to family and civil law matters including child protection and family violence matters. You will contribute to Legal Aid Queensland's strategic planning process and provide advice to head office about issues in your region. You will also be responsible for developing policies and procedures specific to Regional Legal Services. An important aspect of this role is establishing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders in the justice system to identify legal needs in the community and region and collaborate to deliver services that help meet those needs. This is a challenging and diverse role that offers a capable professional the chance to utilise their management and community engagement skills, while continuing to provide legal services to clients in a complex environment. What you will bring to the role: Admitted or eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland or eligible for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners. Extensive experience in the conduct of summary and indictable criminal law matters and related areas of law. Experience managing a large multi-disciplinary legal team including monitoring activities against performance targets. Knowledge of human resource functions. Interested?
