About the Role Transurban operates 18 toll road assets in Australia, including 184 km of open road and 65 km of tunnels, generating $5.2B in toll revenue. Our roads are among the safest and most technologically advanced globally. The Asset Strategy function is key to managing risk and optimising performance, developing strategies that ensure ongoing investment meets both concession deed requirements and business goals.
As the Senior Principal Engineer – Pavement & Road Design , you will lead all Pavement & Road Design strategy, asset management, and engineering change for Transurban's toll roads. This role requires expertise, strategic vision, and technical leadership to ensure designs meet deed concessions and align with Transurban's objectives for safe, reliable, and profitable operations. Through your expertise, you will provide technical guidance across the asset management lifecycle, ensuring solutions meet regulatory standards and core strategy objectives. Strong business and stakeholder management skills are essential as you collaborate with various functions to achieve enterprise goals.
This role is part of the asset management strategy team, a small team of experts that set whole of concession life and asset function strategy across Transurban's asset base. Collaborating with the short-term planning team, delivery and commercial teams, and the national asset engineering team, this role provides technical engineering guidance and authority across all aspects of the asset management lifecycle process for pavement and road asset management.
Day-to-day, you will: Strategize and Innovate: Develop and implement innovative Whole of Concession Life Asset strategies that set the standard for the industry.
Lead with Authority: Provide unparalleled technical leadership and engineering authority, ensuring every design meets our high standards and regulatory requirements.
Drive Excellence: Translate visionary strategies into actionable 5-year work programs, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in pavement and road design.
Collaborate and Influence: Engage with top-tier stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners, to align our goals and drive collective success.
Champion Safety and Sustainability: Lead initiatives that prioritize health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring our roads are safe for everyone.
Mentor and Inspire: Guide and develop engineering teams across multiple locations, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including: Tertiary degree in Engineering as minimum, further education desired such as Masters or PhD.
Chartered registration with Engineers Australia or relevant jurisdictional professional registration body.
Recognised externally as an expert in Engineering discipline, contributing to the profile and position of Engineering across stakeholder and community groups.
