We are currently looking for the below roles to assist with the State Elections next year:
Presiding OfficerPresiding Officer manages the operations of a polling place and supervises all staff.
This includes ensuring electoral procedures are adhered to.
After 6pm becomes the ARO (Assistant returning officer) Responsible for the conduct of the counts, including training of officers (first preference, 2CP & initial Legislative Council sort) and recording the results of the counts.
Also responsible for management of campaign workers, scrutineers and formality of ballot papers –generally PO unless Early Polling Place.
Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 5Assistant Presiding OfficerAssistant Presiding Officers are appointed to assist the Presiding Officer as needed.
They help manage personnel, election resources, and the polling place, including taking on the role of Substitute Presiding Officer when required.
After 6 PM, they assist the Assistant Returning Officer in overseeing the counting and reconciliation operations in accordance with the relevant manuals and training received.
Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 3Declaration OfficerThe Declaration Officer issues declaration votes on polling day to electors who are not on that district's electoral roll.
Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 1.3Early Presiding OfficerEarly Presiding Officers manage personnel, election resources, and the polling place.
This includes ensuring that electoral procedures are followed and supervising staff at the polling location.
Dates– between 24th February and 7th March 2025 (approx.
11 days work – weekday and possibly Saturday work)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 5Early Assistant Presiding OfficerEarly Assistant Presiding Officers assist the Early Presiding Officer as required.
They help manage personnel, election resources, and the polling place, including taking on the role of Substitute Early Presiding Officer when required.
Dates– between 24th February and 7th March 2025 (approx.
11 days work – weekday and possibly Saturday work)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 3Early Issuing / Counting OfficerThe Early Issuing Officer issues ballot papers to electors (ordinary and declaration) both using the Elector Recording System (ERS) during the polling period.
They also rotate as a ballot box guard and queue controller.
On polling day become counting officers to reconcile and count ballot papers.
Dates– 24th February until 8th March 2025 (approx.
11 days work – weekend & weekday work)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayTimes– 7.30 am – 6.00 pm (24th February – 7th March) and 5.00 pm – 12.00 am (8th March 2025)Level– 1.3Assistant Returning OfficerAssistant Returning Officers are responsible for the conduct of the counts, including training of officers (first preference, 2CP & initial Legislative Council sort) and recording the results of the counts.
Also responsible for management of scrutineers and formality of ballot papers – generally Presiding Officer unless from an Early Polling Place.
May also conduct fresh scrutiny.
Times– 5.00 pm – 12.00 amLevel– 5Mobile Presiding OfficerThe Mobile Presiding Officer manages the operation of mobile polling at aged care facilities, hospitals, locations for homeless individuals, airports and prisons.
This includes ensuring that electoral procedures are followed and supervising staff.
Mobile Presiding Officers will work with at least one Mobile Officer and may visit several facilities on the same day.
Dates– between 23rd February and 8th March 2025 (3 to 4 days work – weekday and possibly Saturday)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 5Mobile Issuing OfficerThe Mobile Issuing Officer issues ballot papers and assists the Mobile Presiding Officer as required.
Dates– 23rd February till 8th March 2025 (3 days work – weekday/weekends)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 1.3Remote Presiding OfficerThe Remote Presiding Officer manages the operation of mobile polling at remote locations.
This includes ensuring that electoral procedures are followed and supervising staff.
Remote polling is conducted in Aboriginal communities in the following districts: Kalgoorlie, Kimberley, Mid-West, and Pilbara.
Remote Presiding Officers will work with at least one Remote Officer and may visit several facilities on the same day.
Teams must visit the communities scheduled by the Returning Officer on the days and times specified on the Commission's website.
Dates– 22nd February until 8th March 2025 (approx.
10 days work – weekends/ weekdays)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 5Remote Issuing OfficerThe Remote Issuing Officer issues ballot papers and assists the Remote Presiding Officer as needed.
Remote polling is conducted in communities in the following districts: Kalgoorlie, Kimberley, Mid-West, and Pilbara.
Dates– 22nd February until 8th March 2025 (approx.
10 days work – weekend/ weekdays)Training– paid in person training will be required for this role pre-election dayLevel– 1.3Returning Officer AssistantThe Returning Officer Assistant (ROA) is appointed to assist the RO with higher-level duties.
Responsibilities include the receipt and entry of results on polling night, assisting with mobile counts, and supporting the return of materials (RoM) from Presiding Officers.
During the election cycle, an ROA may also help the RO with the close of nominations, the ballot paper draw, and preparing materials for distribution at training sessions (including ballot papers).
Dates– March 2025 (approx.
4 days work – may require weekend and weekday work)Level– 1.3Returning Officer General AssistantThe RO may appoint four Returning Officer General Assistants (ROGA) to assist with the receipt, sorting, and distribution of materials to Presiding Officers, as well as the reconciliation and packing of materials on election night and for three days after polling day.
Dates– between 22nd February and 11th March 2025 (approx.
