Senior Policy Officer - Security and Estate Group The Key Duties of the Position Include: The RoleThe Security and Estate Group (SEG) is seeking multiple Senior Policy Officers to support Defence's mission to defend Australia and its national interests. As a Senior Policy Officer within SEG, you will work independently, exercising both initiative and judgement in the interpretation and application of policy.You will provide detailed policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development across one of the group's main functions: security, service delivery, estate, or infrastructure. This challenging and rewarding position involves knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and Defence's mission and policy requirements. Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to): Manage the development and maintenance of policy documentation including Standard Operating Procedures, templates, guidelines, and business rules to ensure alignment with whole of government and Defence policy.Apply experience to identify policy issues and conduct research to resolve them.Build and sustain effective relationships with subject matter experts, Defence, government, and industry stakeholders to develop policy and advice.Engage and motivate team members to participate in teamwork, group activities, and to establish effective working relationships.Evaluate security policy issues, identify logic gaps, and initiate the development and assessment of recommendations.Interpret policy, procedures, and guidelines to assess alignment with whole of government policy and provide advice to stakeholders.Lead complex policy analysis and prepare work area plans, identifying risks and uncertainties, and detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action to achieve desired policy outcomes.If you are passionate about safeguarding Australia's national interest and assets, and working in a fast-paced environment that is inclusive, values your contributions, supports your professional development, and provides flexible working options, then SEG is the workplace for you. About Our Team Dive into the heart of the Defence Estate with the Security and Estate Group (SEG), where you'll be at the forefront of learning how SEG develops, sustains, and protects an estate spanning over 3.8 million hectares - the Commonwealth's largest landholding. Current Senior Policy Officer Vacancies Exist in the Following Divisions: Defence Security Division: Provides adaptable security services to Defence and Defence industry, and provides timely, considered guidance to all Defence employees. Your work here will contribute to securing Defence by developing, advising on, implementing, and reviewing Defence security policies (domestic and international) to elevate national security.Estate Transformation Division: Established in July 2024, this division is tasked with strengthening the resilience of the Defence Estate through Defence-wide integration, reorientation, and collaboration. Here you will contribute to process reform, Defence Estate optimisation, and engagement with central agencies on estate management policy and the implementation of Government direction and strategic intent.
