Senior Policy Officer - Inspector-General of Biosecurity Who we are
The Inspector-General of Biosecurity is an independent statutory officer under the Biosecurity Act 2015 and supports the continuous improvement of Australia's preventative biosecurity risk management systems through independent reviews and reporting. The Biosecurity Act 2015 creates the Inspector-General's mandate to undertake reviews of the performance of functions, or exercise of powers, by biosecurity officials in the department. These are assurance reviews of the department's preventative risk management systems. The Inspector-General produces review reports that set out the subject, findings, evidence and the recommendations resulting from a review, and provides these to the Director of Biosecurity (the Secretary of the department) and the Minister for Agriculture. Review reports are published on the Inspector-General's website ( Office of Inspector-General of Biosecurity is a small team of policy and technical experts supporting the Inspector-General in delivering their work program. Our work is underpinned by the values of consultation, integrity, respect and excellence. We work closely with the Inspector-General and assist with secretariat services, plan and coordinate reviews, undertake end-to-end project management, consult with internal and external stakeholders, research, analyse and synthesise information, and write and publish review reports. The office of the Inspector-General of Biosecurity is part of the department's Enterprise Strategy and Governance Division, Governance Branch. Administrative arrangements are designed to ensure the independence of the Inspector-General of Biosecurity.
