The First Nations team is building cultural capability, trust, transparency and strengthening relationships between the QPS and First Nations communities, across Queensland.

This is achieved by sharing information and developing initiatives in a collaborative approach to prevent harm and together develop a safer Queensland for everyone.


We are focused on building a diverse team with a supportive inclusive culture and we are actively seeking applications from people with First Nations backgrounds. In this role you will be a part of the newly established First Nations Division and Contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team to the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of Whole of Government strategies and Queensland Police Service strategic and operational plans related to the First Nations Division.
The First Nations Division is a close-knit team and positively contributing to working relationships and ensuring approachability is essential, demonstrating empathy, respect, teamwork and compassion.
The Core Capability Requirements for this role are: Provide high quality, well-researched advice to senior management in relation to issues effecting policing of First Nations related policing issues and respond to such issues by developing effective policy options and strategies.Perform project and research tasks aimed at the investigation, analysis and evaluation of issues affecting First Nations matters.Contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team to the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of Whole of Government strategies and Queensland Police Service strategic and operational plans related to the First Nations Division.Monitor, evaluate and review policies, legislation and practices across Government and within the Queensland Police Service, which impact on First Nations matters and liaise and negotiate with those agencies to achieve an appropriate holistic response.Prepare correspondence, briefings and submissions for senior management, the Minister, Cabinet and other diverse audiences.Produce timely and accurate information to be used for the purpose of evaluating programs, providing a basis for planning and policy development, and the assessment of legislative impacts on First Nations matters.Consult and liaise effectively with other areas of the Queensland Police Service and relevant Government departments and non-government organisations on First Nations matters, as appropriate, and represent the Queensland Police Service on inter-agency forums.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
