As the Senior Policy Officer, you will contribute to the development and implementation of key government priorities within the Work and Electrical Safety Policy (WESP) or the Industrial Relations Policy and Legislation (IRPL) team. You will work on significant policy and legislative projects and provide skilful policy research and analysis to support senior members of the team. You will also have the opportunity to lead some pieces of policy and legislative work yourself.
Key responsibilities include: Develop and provide high level strategic policy advice on work health and safety and/or industrial relations matters to facilitate the development of legislation and policy initiatives to the Manager, Director, Senior Executives and the Minister. Monitor national and international trends in industrial relations and/or work health and safety, electrical safety and workers' compensation and undertake research into current and emerging issues. Investigate, research and analyse policy and related legislative, economic and social aspects in order to brief on and develop options and recommendations on relevant issues. Prepare and/or co-ordinate discussion papers, submissions, ministerial briefing notes and responses to complex and sensitive issues arising from the Office of the Minister for Industrial Relations and the Regulator. Liaise with other government departments and agencies and other key stakeholders at state and national levels. Prepare Cabinet submissions, including policy recommendations, briefings, correspondence and policy papers for the consideration of the Senior Executives and the Minister. Experience in work health and safety is not required to perform this role.
