Senior Policy Officer

The Senior Policy Officer will provide high-level research, policy development and advice to the Tiwi Land Council.
The role will be expected to engage with Tiwi people to understand their priorities and perspectives and represent the Tiwi Land Council in policy forums, acting as a liaison point for external agencies, particularly within the Northern Territory and Australian governments.
Organisational Overview The Tiwi Land Council was established on 18 August 1978, following representation by the Tiwi people to the Federal Government for recognition of our distinct geographic and cultural identity.
The Tiwi Land Council represents all Tiwi people in the protection of our land, sea, and environment, while at the same time supporting sustainable economic development to improve Tiwi lives through employment, income, education and health opportunities.

Role Responsibilities Engage with Tiwi Land Council members and community members to understand policies affecting Tiwi people and their priorities.Work with Tiwi Land Council staff to better understand policies affecting core Land Council business and prepare internal policy advice.Conduct research to understand policy frameworks affecting Tiwi communities and consider specific policy issues in detail.Work closely with Tiwi organisations, the Northern Territory's three other Land Councils and further key stakeholders to coordinate policy positions.Develop coherent policy positions and prepare policy submissions on behalf of the Tiwi Land Council.Represent the Tiwi Land Council and Tiwi interests in policy forums and meetings with government agencies and elected officials.Act as a liaison point for external agencies in their engagement with the Tiwi Land Council.Present complex policy issues to Council members in a manner that can be easily understood.Proactively advocate for Tiwi interests, both in relation to core Land Council business and broader Tiwi priorities.Any other duties, as and when directed by the CEO and the Manager, Tiwi Engagement & Strategy.What's on Offer$120,000 base per annum for a 12-month fixed term, full-time period (extension subject to funding).
