Senior Policy Officer

Energy and Public Works (Organisation site ) Governance and Operations; Supply and Storage; Energy; Brisbane City As a key member of the team, you will contribute to energy emergency management, ensuring Queensland's power supply, and more broadly the National Electricity Market, remains secure and reliable. You will also contribute to the governance of government-owned corporations and play a critical role in supporting the Governance and Operations team. This will entail high level coordination, research, analysis and reporting activities.Your responsibilitiesAs the Senior Policy Officer, you will:• Assist in maintaining the Department's emergency management plans for electricity and gas• Assist in briefing and advising senior, executive and ministerial officials, and the Minister on risks and issues with the security and reliability of Queensland's power system, and DEC's response preparedness and plan• Participate in annual emergency planning and preparedness exercises• Represent Queensland on national and inter-governmental working groups and committees in relation to emergency management matters• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with senior and executive officials, government-owned corporations (GOC), national bodies and jurisdictional counterparts• Conduct and coordinate substantial high-level research, analysis and review on complex policy including management of the GOCs • Prepare and contribute to complex submissions, briefing notes, presentations,speeches, publications, reports and correspondence on a range of issues relating to the energy sector GOCs and emergency management.• Contribute to critical analysis and reporting on the Department's emergency management plans and government owned corporations' (GOCs') operational and financial performance.• Other duties as required.About youWe recognise and celebrate that everyone is unique and we are looking to find the eligible person best suited to the role.In deciding who is best suited to this role, we may consider:• the skills, experience, qualifications, knowledge and behaviours/personal qualities that you would bring to the role• your potential to make a future contribution to the department (including the extent to which you have the potential for development)• how you may contribute to the department's workforce diversity objectives.To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:• Experience in energy emergency planning and management as well as corporate governance, or the ability to quickly understand these concepts and learn on the job• Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships to establish mutually beneficial connections.• Ability to respond in a fast-paced environment and deliver results.• Experience in the assessment and delivery of large infrastructure projects (preferred but not required).• In addition, this role requires the leadership capabilities of an Individual Contributor as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland booklet.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
