Senior Professional Officer 1 (Remuneration Package $150,506 - $167,941) Legal Policy Ongoing vacancy in Darwin The Senior Policy Lawyer is responsible for providing portfolio Ministers, the NT Government and Instrumentalities with high quality legal and policy advice.
The Legal Policy unit is responsible for leading legislative reform for all legislation within the Attorney-General's portfolio of responsibility.
The unit also provides legal policy support and advice on cross-agency Northern Territory Government projects and represents the Attorney-General and Department in multi-jurisdictional projects and in national reform settings such as the Standing Council of Attorneys-General and its related working groups.
About the role Reporting to the Director Legal Policy, you will:
Provide expert, timely, efficient and accurate legal and policy advice through Executive leadership.Participate in the development of legal policy and in policy coordination and assist in the development of current and emerging local and national policy initiatives.Assist in the supervision of junior legal staff to ensure that work is conducted in a timely, efficient and professional way, and report to supervisor and Executive leadership on the progress of matters.Represent the Department, liaise with clients, facilitate and maintain effective partnerships with government and stakeholders, and deal with people and issues in a professional manner.About you You will be admitted as an Australian legal practitioner with eligibility to obtain a local practising certificate and have substantial quality experience and knowledge in the practice of law in relevant fields.
You will have well-developed conceptual, analytical and collaborative skills to manage a wide range of organisational issues and in researching and evaluating issues, defining options and preparing recommendations for scrutiny at the Executive, Ministerial and Government level.
You possess sound ability to be politically astute and sensitive in the provision of legal policy advice while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and accountability; and have proven experience in managing projects and workload in order to meet client needs and deadlines, to cope with pressure and to work as part of a team.
Any experience in a position involved with the development and supervision of junior legal staff would be an advantage.
