The Opportunity 
CME is seeking a highly driven and committed environment and sustainability expert to join as a Senior Policy Advisor . This role leads evidence-based policy analysis and development within the Environment and Sustainability portfolio, maximizing industry data to inform and advocate CME's and our member positions on various issues impacting the resource sector. 
This role has the ability to meaningfully shape the future of WA's resources sector through strong partnerships with resource sector companies, all levels of government, and some of the most experienced environmental and sustainability professionals within the industry. 
CME may consider employing this position as a Policy Advisor, depending on the successful applicant's level of skills and experience. 
CME is open to relocation assistance for the right candidate.
What will you be doing? Collaborate with members and the CME team on policy development covering various environmental and sustainability resource sector issues such as biodiversity, tenure and land access, closure and relinquishment, waste, water, ambient air, climate change, decarbonisation electricity, gas networks, energy transition and regulatory reform. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including member companies, government representatives (local, state, and federal), environmental and sustainability technical professionals, and community stakeholders. Contribute to legislative and regulatory amendments and government assessment process enhancements to boost member competitiveness. Proactively engage with resource sector companies to address emerging issues and priorities, and advocate for these on their behalf.  Prepare high-level reports, including drafting submissions outlining industry positions on different issues. Support and coordinate portfolio committees and working groups, ensuring effective member and stakeholder engagement, and lead the general servicing of these meetings.  Provide research and administrative support for relevant legislation and government policies. Represent CME and its members at key events and establish networks across the WA community. Some travel to member sites within WA will be required.  What are we looking for in you? Tertiary qualification in a related field along with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Experience in onsite technical aspects of environmental and sustainability, and project management. Demonstrated understanding of legislations such as the Mining Act, Environmental Protection Act, and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity and Conservation Act.  Previous involvement in environmental policy development, and assessment approval process. Understanding of State and Federal government policy development processes. Working knowledge and experience relevant to the resources sector. Flexible and collaborative approach with high professionalism, and a drive for results. Strong people skills, relationship management, and networking capabilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
