The role:The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for managing and overseeing the payroll process within Zinc Australia. They ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries, wages, and benefits to employees. The Senior Payroll Officer collaborates with HR, finance, and other departments to maintain payroll records, resolve payroll-related issues, and implement payroll policies and procedures. This role is office based with occasional remote work options. This position reports directly to the Superintendent Workforce Planning and can be based in Mount Isa or Brisbane for the suitable candidate. This roster would be flexible dependent on where the role is based. Your key accountabilities and responsibilities include: Process payroll for all employees, including calculating salaries, deductions, and taxes. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Maintain accurate payroll records and resolve discrepancies. Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations and provide data for financial reporting. Collaborate with HR to update employee information, such as new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status. Handle payroll inquiries and resolve employee concerns. Assist in the implementation of payroll software and systems. Train and mentor junior payroll staff. Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and best practices. The successful applicant will have: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Some experience in payroll processing. Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel or willingness to learn. Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations or willingness to learn. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Desirable Qualifications and Skills: Experience with large-scale payroll systems or willingness to learn Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
