The Senior Paint & Roto Artist is responsible for delivering high level Paint and Roto tasks with minimal supervision.
Primary Responsibilities:Attends dailies and follows up with team lead regarding their notes, fixes, etc.Work with broad stroke notes and define looks for key events and shots.Hits given notes but is proactive in offering suggestions and alternate approaches.Consistent preparation with visual reference on hand when seeking feedback.Give artistic feedback to other Roto artists.May assist in creating generic scripts and templates to be used by other artists.Self-proficient in task estimation for production and scheduling.Works across departmental lines to develop techniques and efficiencies for assigned shots and potentially sequences.Able to balance own shot work and active mentoring of less-experienced artists.Consistently pushes for productivity enhancements in current pipeline and work practices.Works with management and show supervision to maintain strong morale, flag communication issues and escalate problems to appropriate show lead or HOD.Helps others to troubleshoot shots and setups.Takes ownership of the work and is proactive about offering solutions, efficiencies and "pluses" for look and technique.Keeps abreast of current trends and tools being used in house and across the industry for respective discipline.May be tasked with organizing shows and tells to share tips and tricks among the team.Mentors and provides feedback for more junior members, including helping with performance reviews. Mentors other artists in leadership and teaching skills.May be asked to assist in the QCing of artist or vendor reviews.Required Skills / Competencies:Strong communicator with artists, supervisors and managers.Strong time management in delivering shots.Solid organizational skills for priority shot task requests.Aesthetically and creatively capable of producing high-quality images.Team player who takes direction well.Dependable under pressure with attention to detail.Drive for results.Plans well and manages priorities.Stay agile and flexible.Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.Thinks analytically and innovatively.Always curious and seeks new learning opportunities.Required Technical Skills:Has demonstrated an excellent artistic eye, experienced in making the shot "look cool."Keen eye and attention to detail for reviewing roto/paint shots.Technically proficient to perform all roto/paint tasks with Silhouette and Nuke.Displays advanced skill at hand painting techniques using Silhouette.Has strong proficiency in multi-element integration and edge work.Demonstrates a strong proficiency with complex roto and paint work.Demonstrates ability to establish novel techniques.Knowledge of photography, composition, lighting, color and motion.Specific knowledge of layering math and trade-offs of filtering techniques in relation to sharpness and noise/grain.Solid understanding of image pipeline from capture to delivery. Practical use of this knowledge to maintain the highest quality image possible. (i.e. concatenating transforms, color corrections, etc.)This position is with Lucasfilm Entertainment Company Ltd.
